Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea ownership in numbers

Although Chelsea’s ownership situation is close to being sorted, going into the summer there remains a significant degree of uncertainty around the football club.

Todd Boehly looks certain to be the man tasked with taking the Blues forward after Roman Abramovich sold up, although as of yet it’s not completely clear what the club’s policy will look like under his stewardship.

Chelsea fans will find out those answers in the coming weeks, although in the short-term there is crucial transfer business to be conducted. The squad needs reinforcements to push Manchester City and Liverpool next season and there are still a few crucial players who could yet move on in this window.

Collymore sends transfer message to Chelsea

Former England international striker Stan Collymore thinks the Blues need to sign some edgier characters in the transfer window in order to push for major honours again.

Although Chelsea won the Champions League in 2021, they faded in the Premier League title battle with Liverpool and City last season after an encouraging start.

Collymore thinks that finding players to represent the talent and temperament of some legends from years gone by will be vital to the team improving.

“Since Terry, Lampard and the rest of them left, Chelsea have become a team of lovely boys – think Mason Mount and Reece James,” he said. “But if you wanted to set the tone that you’re going to start rubbing people up the wrong way again then why not get Romelu Lukaku out and put the £60million or £70m you’d get for him towards a monster move for the England captain?”

Kounde transfer ‘matter of time’

Chelsea are reportedly set to turn to Sevilla’s Jules Kounde in an attempt to solve their defensive problems going into next season.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen will leave the club this summer, while there is also uncertainty over Cesar Azpilicueta’s future too. It means Tuchel will need to add some reinforcements at the back.

Kounde has long been linked with a move to the Blues and was seemingly close to making the switch a year ago. However, he remained in Andalusia and enjoyed another strong campaign in La Liga.

According to reports in Spain, it is now a “matter of time” before the France international becomes a Chelsea player. Kounde is said to be valued in the region of £150 million by his current club.

Potential £170 million exodus

A number of players are expected to leave Chelsea this summer, potentially giving Tuchel a whopping £170 million to spend on new recruits.

The Blues will lose defenders Rudiger and Christensen on a free transfer, although plenty more are expected to follow that duo out the door for potential fees.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have also been linked with transfers and it’s been estimated that if all seven were to move on then the amount accrued would be the healthy sum aforementioned.
