Corona Masker, for Coronavirus
The types of masks are very diverse. Some of them are only useful to ward off pollution but cannot ward off the transmission of the Coronavirus. Until now, there are 2 types of masks for the Coronavirus that are recommended to the public:
Surgical mask
The Surgical mask or surgical mask is a type of disposable mask that is easily found and is often used by medical personnel when on duty. Surgical masks can be selected to prevent the spread of Coronavirus because it has a layer that can dispel the sprinkling of saliva.
Even so, this mask is more effective when worn by people who are sick to prevent transmission of germs to others, rather than by healthy people to protect themselves from the disease.
Most surgical masks consist of 3 layers that have different functions, namely:
- The waterproof outer layer
- The middle layer, which functions as a germ filter
- The inner layer, which is useful for absorbing fluid coming out of the mouth.
You are not recommended to use a mask without these three functions because it is not effective in preventing infectious diseases, such as Coronavirus infection.
Surgical masks can be obtained at low prices. Plus, this mask is also commonly used for everyday use. However, this mask is a bit loose when used, thus allowing small particles or air to enter through the side edges of the mask.
N95 Mask
N95 masks are also recommended to prevent transmission of the Coronavirus. Masks that tend to be more expensive than surgical masks are not only able to dispel sprinkling of saliva, but also small particles in the air that may contain viruses.
Compared to surgical masks, the N95 mask feels tighter on the face because it has been designed to fit the nose and mouth of an adult. In children, the use of this mask is not recommended because the size of the mask can be too large, so it cannot provide enough protection.
Although the protection is better, the N95 mask is not recommended for everyday use. This is due to the design that makes people who use it can be difficult to breathe, hot, and not comfortable wearing it in a rather long period.
How to use the correct mask
Surgical masks and N95 masks can be used to prevent exposure to the Coronavirus. However, the benefits of both masks will only be effective if you use them properly.
Here is a guide to using the correct mask:
- Make sure you wash your hands properly.
- If you use a surgical mask, make sure the outside is green, and the inside is white.
- Put on the mask strap well. If the mask string needs to be tied, tie the top first, then the bottom.
- Make sure the mask covers the nose, mouth, and chin perfectly. Also, make sure the metal part is in the bridge of the nose.
- Bend the metal strip following the curve of the nose so that there are no holes left.
- Avoid touching the middle of the mask when using and removing the mask.
- Dispose of the mask in the trash and wash your hands thoroughly after using the mask.
Using a mask for the Coronavirus is effective in preventing transmission. Whatever type of mask, you must understand how to use it appropriately. Also, hand washing is as crucial as wearing a mask. Always wash your hands after every action or touch, especially in public places.
Besides all that, maintaining health and endurance is equally important. If you have recently traveled to China or other countries that have contracted Coronavirus infection, you should see a doctor for a health check-up, especially if you experience symptoms of cough, runny nose, fever, and shortness of breath.
